Telescoping Boom Lifts
Telescoping booms lifts are designed to mount a work bucket on an extendable, straight arm which is situated on a rotating turntable. Typically, telescoping boom lifts are used for jobs that require reaching at maximum height, exceeding other kinds of lifts. Like for example, workers could perform exterior renovations or repairs on buildings of medium height but utilizing these lifts as opposed to having the additional work of setting up a pulley system or an outside elevator.
The boom lift bucket usually only holds one employee. These buckets are better suited to specific jobs like for example electrical repair, rather than general maintenance or window washing. These lifts come in gas or electric configurations and are available with both outdoor and indoor tires.
Scissor Lifts
Scissor lifts are named for the cross-braces under the work platform. These braces squeeze together in order to push the platform straight up. As these types of machines should be positioned directly beneath the work site, as opposed to boom lifts, these units are way more limited in their use.
The scissor lift usually has a larger platform that enables the operator to control the lift to access a bigger work area once the lift platform is raised off the ground. With scissor lifts, all-terrain capability is less of an issue with these types of machines, because they should sit on flat ground in order to be used. Scissor lifts are ideal for being utilized for window installation or cladding, since they provide the personnel with the desired mobility; they are also a good option for exterior repairs or window cleaning applications.
Boom Trucks vs. Cranes
The boom truck or cherry picker refers to the utility vehicle usually utilized to raise personnel for different tasks performed at heights. Generally, these trucks have a cab. It is here where the operator sits and controls the equipment. There is a bucket for where the employee could stand along with an actuator arm for lifting the boom and a winch for lifting.
Cherry pickers can raise personnel up to heights which were previously inaccessible. The cranes function is to raise both heavy supplies and equipment for one place to another. There are a variety of different crane types which can perform a variety of purposes. Both of these different kinds of machines excel at various jobs and are suitable for certain applications and completing particular jobs.
