History
Salzgitter Maschinenbau AG was started during the year 1919. The company was first established by Anton Raky, an engineer. Raky was a pioneer in oil drilling and modern drilling technology. The company's first name was Anton Raky, Tiefbohrungen in Salzgitter.
During 1937, the cornerstone for SMAG was laid when the manufacturing facility was acquired by the Salzgitter Group for making drilling equipment.
