Forklift Components in More Detail
There are hundreds of parts that make up a forklift. The forklifts major parts comprise the frame of the truck, the engine components, the overhead guard, the tilt cylinders and the wheels. In addition, a lift truck has a variety of attachments. All the parts that make up a lift truck are of equal importance since they work together to make the equipment's operation possible. The subsequent paragraphs describe in detail some of the lift truck parts.
The Overhead Guard - this guard forms the forklift truck's metal roof. It sits on top of the cab area and protects the machine operator whilst he or she is sitting and driving. The overhead guard ensures that nothing falling from above onto the truck would injure the driver or damage the controls inside the cab. The overhead guard is essential to the frame assembly on several models.
The Mast - the mast is a vertical assembly made of interlocking rails and mounted either to the front axle or the forklift frame. The mast provides lateral stability and allows the forks to move upwards and down. The interlocking rails can either have bushings or bushings as guides. There are two ways the mast may be operated: hydraulically by one or more hydraulic cylinders or chain operated with motive power provided by a hydraulic motor.
Forklift Carriage - The carriage is the component which the forks and various other kinds of attachments are mounted to. Actually, the carriage is directly connected to the hydraulic cylinder and is connected by chains. To be able to enable the forks to be lowered and raised, the carriage could have either rollers or bushings to guide it in the interlocking mast rails.
Load Back Rest - When the carriage is raised to full height, there is a back rest made of metal that prevents a load from falling backwards. The back rest is either bolted or welded on to the carriage.
Lift Truck Attachments - There are numerous attachments which could be fixed directly to the lift truck's carriage. Forks are the most common kind of attachment. Additionally, there are L-shaped members, rollers, rotators, pole handlers, roll clamps and and all that. These different kinds of attachments are handy for moving various kinds of loads.
